We love the environment so if you choose to be a guest of the Cullens you will not be disappointed with our eco-friendly ethos!
We run a tight ship in terms of environmentally friendly practices. We have a strict recycling system, composting energy restrictions and energy saving light bulbs. Our new extension with 4 additional rooms and self-catering facilities has a state of the art geothermal heating system which collects heat from the air as opposed to the ground and we water gardens with conserved rainwater, manage recycled waste and have compost bins made out of recycled wood. We reduce water flow, use green electricity and provide bird tables and nesting boxes. Our cleaning products are all bio-degradable. We have the most environmentally friendly sceptic tank treatment system available in the E.U. and provide visitor instructions on how to be green.
The Schoolhouse has been restored following eco-principles from the outset which allowed it to grow organically incorporating good practice at every stage of the development. We re-plastered the walls using traditional methods such as hemp and lime plastering and stripped the unfriendly concrete render from the outside of the building. The new cedar cladded timber framed Shomera extension uses eco friendly paints, is insulated with high u-value insulation (which can be found in NASA space shuttles!) and the school room retains it's large traditional open granite fireplaces.
Our unique touch lies in the environmentally-friendly visitor's bathroom products available. It is our aim to eventually install wind or solar systems so that we can be totally self sufficient.
We support local food producers and promote low carbon activity breaks such as hill walking, equestrian and fishing / angling activities.
